The Return of Bobby, and New Contributors

Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox have agreed to an unguaranteed one year, $800K deal (could be worth as much as $1.1M with incentives) with outfielder and red-hair-extraordinaire Bobby Kielty.  Kielty had a very uneventful 33 games for the Sox last year after being acquired from the Oakland Athletics, going 19-for-87 (.218 BA) for the big club with 1 HR and 12 RBI.  As it stands right now, Kielty would be third on the depth chart in centerfield, leading many - including Edes - to speculate that he was signed as insurance in the event of a Coco Crisp deal.  Obviously, the Sox will not be sending Crisp out of town in a Johan Santana deal anymore, but hopefully they can still grab a solid reliever for him.  What Kielty may lack in overall skill and ability he more than makes up for with his above-average personality and outgoing nature in the clubhouse, and he will join Sean Casey on a very solid, ever-growing Red Sox bench.  In addition to his skills on the field, we can all hope and pray that Bobby unveils a sweet Irish Afro in spring training or throughout the season to commemorate his re-signing.  Time will tell on that last issue.

In addition, I'd like to announce that our two newest members, IgnorantBostonian and PitchMaster, joined up and contributed pieces tonight.  PitchMaster bestowed upon us a most excellent review of yet another disappointing Bruins game, but his eloquence and insightful comments make reviewing such a horrid showing feel like a privilege.  IgnorantBostonian provided us with a great bit of wit and humor in reviewing Michael Strahan's pseudo-celebration today in which he displayed his true colors as a perennial non-winner by claiming that he and the Giants "stomped" the Patriots.  We look forward to having many contributions from these two, as well as the elusive MannyOrtez, throughout the entire life of this website.  We're going to be trying many different things in the upcoming weeks, from game reviews to rumors and rants, so let us know if there's anything particular you would like to see from us.  Afterall, we're here to serve you.
