Top Sox Prospects
RotoWorld
has started their annual review of each MLB organization's top ten prospects
and, how convenient, they started with the AL East today. It's really very
good, so I recommend checking it out at rotoworld.com if it interests you. In order
from first to worst, RotoWorld ranks the Sox youngsters in this order: Clay
Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Lars Anderson, Jed Lowrie, Michael Bowden, Justin
Masterson, Ryan Kalish, Brandon Moss, Daniel Bard, Oscar Tejeda. Overall,
a very good list and I can't disagree too heartily with any of the rankings.
A couple notes, however: I think Buchholz and Ellsbury are a lot closer than a
lot of other informed followers seem to. At worst, it's a "Prospect
1, Prospect 1A" as opposed to a clear-cut "1, 2" situation in my
opinion. I also think Lars Anderson may be a little far up the list right
now, even though he's easily the best power hitter of anyone on the list.
Early opinions on Anderson have him being capable of putting up 30+ homers a
year in a middle-of-the-order role, clearly enough to merit his ranking at
third. However, I think his age and relative lack of experience (20 years
old, drafted out of high school) compared to other prospects on the list
(especially Jed Lowrie and Michael Bowden) should push him down the list a bit
more. I'd put him around 4 or 5, with Lowrie and/or Bowden following Clay
and Jacoby. Any thoughts?
