Okajima Learning New Pitch?
The spring training blog on espn.com is reporting that Hideki Okajima may have learned a new pitch this offseason. The specifics of the pitch are unknown, however adding a fourth pitch to his arsenal could yield some promising results. If the pitch is a slider or cut fastball, being able to jam the ball in on righties would make Okajima that much more difficult to hit. The actual report is as follows:
Bullpen sensation Hideki Okajima didn't rest on his laurels from an outstanding 2007 season.
Okajima told Boston-area reporters that he has been working on some new pitches to add to his arsenal.
"In my mind, the same pattern as last year won't work. Still, my best pitch is my changeup. If it doesn't work, I'll try to throw new pitches to hitters. I just cannot do the same thing as last year, so I've tried to study new techniques and pitches," Okajima said, according to The Providence Journal.
