Bruins Trade Rumors

That's right, BRUINS trade rumors (you didn't misread or "mis-remember," as Roger Clemens is fond of saying), the deadline is February 26th, afterall.

With the Bruins sliding down the Eastern Conference standings (currently at 8th with 63 points), the black and gold may be looking to acquire an established goal-scorer via trade, according to TSN.ca.  The source believes the B's would be willing to part with talented youngsters like center Phil Kessel and defensemen Mark Stuart and Matt Lashoff, but GM Peter Chiarelli and Vice President Cam Neely - via the Boston Herald - refute that claim, stating they will not mortgage their future for a short-term, quick fix.

While it would certainly be nice to see the B's pick up a goal-scoring forward, especially with Patrice Bergeron likely done for the remainder of the season, I agree with Chiarelli and "Yes We Cam" that it would not be worthwhile to do so at the expense giving up potential stars like Kessel, Lashoff, and Stuart.  Kessel's certainly proven he can hold his own at the NHL level (14 goals and 14 assists this season), while Lashoff and Stuart are widely regarded as the team's two best defensive prospects, something we've seen as both blueliners have spent some time with the big club B's (Stuart's played in all 57 games for the B's this season and Lashoff's played a total of 21 the past 2 seasons).

To add on to this post, my sources tell me that the Bruins will do anything to improve this team offensively, especially since Patrice Bergeron is done for the year. However, with a wealth of young prospects on the brink in Providence, and being in the playoff race this late WITHOUT the best veteran players on the roster...it seems doubtful they would go after the major players (a la Marion Hossa, Olli Jokinen, Jaromir Jagr). It would take at least 3 major players to land a big name in Boston, and to be honest, unless it's a steal I think GM Peter Chiarelli will try to continue to develop through the draft, envisioning the Bruins to be like the Sabres have been the past two seasons...
