Sports' Spitting Images - Erik Bedard & Bill Paxton
This next installment of Sports' Spitting Images comes courtesy of loyal reader and guest contributor Harry J. Davis (see what happens when you send in suggestions?). Harry is a very intelligent and well-versed Boston sports enthusiast. He is a Yankees fan but we will not hold it against him... this time.
Anyway, thanks to HJD for the tip, and as usual, if any of you wonderful readers have any tips, comments, suggestions, etc., be sure to let us know and get yourself mentioned on a world-famous website; without further ado, here's Sports' Spitting Images 4.0:

You guessed it, it's newly-acquired Seattle Mariners ace Erik Bedard and acting veteran of over 70 movies and TV shows, Bill Paxton. The resemblance is striking, even with Bedard being about 25 years Paxton's junior.
In a career spanning 4 full seasons, Erik Bedard has amassed 40 wins, 639 K's, and a 3.83 ERA. Bedard had a career year for the Baltimore Orioles last season, going 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA and 221 K's. Had he been playing on a better team and earned a few more wins, he almost certainly would have garnered Cy Young consideration. With his trade to the Mariners, Bedard instantly becomes one of the best starting options in the American League, putting him in such company as Josh Beckett, C.C. Sabathia, Justin Verlander, John Lackey, and Roy Halladay. ESPN projections have Bedard at 18 wins, 253 K's, and a 2.72 ERA for the 2008 season, putting him in the top 3 SPs in all of baseball (right behind Johan Santana and Jake Peavy). While my own projection for Bedard is not so lofty (I put him at 17 wins, 225 K's, and a 3.00 ERA), he seems likely to improve on last year's stats his new team's superior (at least when compared to the Orioles) offense and defense. Amazing what a change of scenery can do for you, eh?
In a career spanning considerably longer than Bedard's (Paxton's first movie was released in 1975), Bill Paxton has impressed on big screens for the better part of three decades. The current star of the highly acclaimed HBO series "Big Love" has starred in such greats as Tombstone (one of my all-time favorite films), Apollo 13, Twister, and Titanic. According to IMDB, Paxton is rumored to have a guest role in the upcoming comedy "The Slammin' Salmon," the latest film venture of the Broken Lizard group, whose films include Super Troopers, Beerfest, and Club Dread.
