Pats Lose Another FA Corner to the NFC

The New Orleans' Times-Picayune's Mike Triplett is reporting that the Saints have agreed to terms with cornerback Randall Gay on a four year, $17.6 million contract.  The main criticism of newly signed Philadelphia Eagles CB Asante Samuel may also be applied to Gay, i.e. that he's a system cornerback and his stats will take a hit in a different scheme.  Gay is an improvement over the inept Jason David but probably won't prove worth the $4 million plus he's making per year.  Randall is the second member of the Patriots' defensive secondary they've let walk this offseason and likely won't be the last as S / CB Eugene Wilson, S Mel Mitchell and CB Chad Scott are also free agents.  Needless to say, the Pats have got some work to do in terms of getting guys on their roster in the LB and CB spots.  It'd be nice to see them get going with some FA signings if for no other reason than for depth at the very least, as they can't possibly hope to address every one of their many needs in the upcoming draft.
