Coco on Cubs' Radar but Sox Aren't Interested... Yet
The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo reports that while Cubs officials have expressed interest in Coco Crisp - presumably to be used in centerfield in place of Felix Pie, who could use a bit more seasoning in the minors - the Sox aren't particularly interested in anything they may be offering so far. Apparently the Cubs have mentioned the names of major league starter Jason Marquis and minor league outfielder Sam Fuld in preliminary discussions, but neither player has piqued any interest on the Sox's end, and rightfully so... Marquis would likely end up behind Colon and Buchholz on the SP depth chart and while Fuld is an intriguing prospect as the Arizona League MVP, the Sox have no current need for another outfielder. Cafardo believes higher-end prospects and/or bullpen help would expedite a deal... perhaps Carlos Marmol is a possibility with Kerry Wood on the mend and the surplus of arms at the back end of that bullpen (Marmol, Wood and Bob Howry are all competing for the closer role)?
