MLB Trade Rumors' Tim Dierkes on the Red Sox
Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors conducted his site's first ever live chat today (see full transcript here) and many issues regarding the Red Sox were discussed. Here's a list of the questions and answers regarding your hometown Boston Beaneaters courtesy of MLBTR:
Josh Beckett / Daisuke Matsuzaka / Starting Pitching:
Q: Do you see the Red Sox making a big move for a pitcher considering Beckett's health?
A: I don't think the Sox are worried about Beckett yet. Plus, most available pitchers aren't much better than Julian Tavarez.
Q: Daisuke got worked in his first two innings today - is this year a regression for him?
A: No, I think he's better this year. He'll improve his control.
Jonathon Papelbon / Relief Pitching:
Q: What about Papelbon, he didn't look so hot either?
A: If this game happened on June 23rd no one would notice.
Coco Crisp / Outfield Situation / Trades:
Q: How soon before Matt Murton packs his things?
A: This week, I'd say. Red Sox seem to want him back, even if they don't have room for him right now.
Q: Will Coco Crisp get traded? If so, what can the Red Sox get back for him?
A: All signs point to Coco staying put for now. As I've said, $11M is a lot for a fourth outfielder and he needs to prove he's 100%.
Q: With the way [Brandon] Moss played today why not trade Crisp?
A: Hopefully Epstein doesn't make decisions based on a single game...
Jason Varitek / Future Catching Situation:
Q: Will the Sox extend Varitek?
A: I see a one-year extension.
The Obligatory Random but Humorous Carl Everett Sighting:
Q: When is Carl Everett coming back?
A: Thought he was with the Long Island Ducks.
And speaking MLB Trade Rumors, they have Buchholz pegged as the AL Rookie of the Year. Let's hope Dierkes is as skilled in the fine art of foresight as he is prompt in hooking us up with breaking baseball news.
