Bruins' Kobasew Out 4-8 Weeks with Fractured Tibia
UPDATE - 3/29 1:29 PM
Turns out Patrice Bergeron has NOT been cleared to resume contact drills according to The Boston Herald. Berg did pass his neuro-psych test several days ago but was not granted clearance by a neurologist with whom he met on Thursday. According to The Boston Globe, he'll be reevaluated in 2 weeks. It's slightly discouraging news, but the extra couple weeks will allow Berg to regain the strength and weight he's lost during his long recovery.
UPDATE - 3/27 9:29 PM
Haven't been able to confirm this yet, but one of the members of NESN's Bruins broadcast crew (Jack Edwards, Andy Brickley, Rob Simpson) reported during the game that Patrice Bergeron, who passed a neuro-psych test yesterday and met with a neurologist this afternoon, was cleared to resume contact drills with the team. With Kobasew likely done for the year and Savard a big question mark with his back injury, any contribution from Berg would be a much-welcomed surprise. Don't get your hopes up, but at least there's a shot he could participate in the playoffs if the B's qualify.

Multiple media sources, including Boston.com and ESPN, are reporting that Boston's second leading goal-scorer, Chuck Kobasew, will be sidelined for 4-8 weeks after a Zdeno Chara slapshot fractured the tibia in his left leg a couple nights ago. Kobasew has set a career high in goals this season with 22 and was recently promoted to the top line as a result of his stellar play. With just 6 more games to play in the regular season (the last of which coming on April 5th), Chucky is most likely done for the year, barring a miraculous recovery and/or a very deep playoff run by the B's. The previously demoted Glen Murray will likely take Kobasew's place on the top line.
Also on the B's injury front, TSN.ca is reporting that the crosscheck Steve Begin planted on Marc Savard resulted in the star forward breaking a bone in his back. Referencing The Boston Herald, TSN says that the bone in question is known as the transverse process. The report is unconfirmed by the Bruins so this could very well just be pure speculation at this point, but with Savy expected to miss at least the next two games, there's definitely something to this. Savy will be reevaluated after the weekend, so hopefully we'll have some encouraging news for you then. Savy has amassed 63 assists this season, good for second in the league behind former Bruin Joe Thornton's 65.
