Canseco on Stern - 4/1/08

Jose Canseco was in-studio this morning with Howard Stern to promote his new book Vindicated (here's our take on his highly-anticipated work) I jotted down a few notes from the interview:
  • Count Jose among those who DO NOT believe Roger Clemens did steroids. Jose always suspected Roger was doing 'roids, but has no proof. "I tried to get information from him by giving him information on what I was using, but I never got direct confirmation."
  • Jose says he has nightmares/dreams about baseball; he'll be playing the game in a dream and then wake up. "It's left a big void. It destroyed a part of me, the way it ended." Jose contended during the interview he was blackballed by MLB for bringing steroids into the game.
  • Howard mentioned that A-Rod has been laughing in response to Jose's accusation that A-Rod was on the juice and that A-Rod was in love with his wife. Jose suggested A-Rod submit to a polygraph test. Howard suggested they take each other on in ultimate fighting.
  • Howard asked if Jose thinks baseball is clean. "They're on their way," Jose said. Players are so scared with Congressional hearings and such, Jose explained, that a player would have to be crazy to do steroids now.
  • Pat Jordan, who wrote an article for Deadspin in March slamming Jose, called in. Jordan claimed Canseco stood him up three times for an interview for the piece, to which Canseco replied that he never wanted to do the interview unless it was for a cover story. Heidi, Jose's girlfriend, was in studio at this point and said Jordan wrote untrue, disparaging things about her in the piece. Jordan said anything he wrote about Jose or Heidi came directly from Jose's lawyer. Jordan said Canseco blew off the interview and that the cover story was never going to happen from the beginning. Jose said Jordan was contradicting himself.
  • Howard asked Jose why he thought Matt Lauer was an A-hole. Jose said he didn't know and that he wasn't sure if he had a bad experience with Lauer. Howard said he asked because Jose wrote that Lauer was an A-hole in Vindicated. Jose seemed surprised by this. Howard's producer Gary then came in with the book and had Jose read aloud the sentence where he refers to Matt Lauer as such. Howard then asked if Jose had been misquoted in his own book.
  • Howard asked Heidi if she thought A-Rod was hot, and she said no. Jose said he thinks A-Rod is a good-looking guy.
  • Artie had one final question for Jose: Is it true that most of the homosexual players in baseball play for the Mets? Jose replied he thought they played in Boston.
