Jackie MacMullan to Leave The Boston Globe

As rumored on WEEI and confirmed on Boston Sports Media Watch, The Globe's Jackie MacMullan has accepted a buyout and will leave the paper. Jackie Mac, as she was known to her readers, had always done a pretty good job in my book. She was definitely not my favorite Globe writers, but I'm sure we can all agree that she was much better than Dan Shaughnessy. Since our knowledge of the Globe's financial resources is limited and no formal announcement regarding this situation has been made, we cannot confirm this, but rumors are that the paper is losing money. This is largely due to the lack of a consistent weekly readership and the growing use of the internet for gathering news. If this is indeed true, expect other writers to be asked to leave, as well. It's been reported that MacMullan will continue to contribute to the Globe and ESPN (she regularly appears on Around the Horn if you were unaware) on a freelance, part-time basis, so don't despair, all you Jackie Mac fans.  We wish her the best in the future and thank her for the contributions she has made to Boston sports over the years.
