Bruins Perspective
I know all of us here have posted something about the bright future of the B's; I will continue this trend, as it is quite therapeutic, and the one thing that all of us B's fans need on this, the day following the crushing Game 7 defeat, is therapy. Looking ahead, the average age of the Bruins squad this year was 27.8 years old. This is decent, but nothing stellar. However, it takes into account every player on the team since the start of the season (i.e. players who had virtually no impact on the outcome of this season such as Bobby Allen, Manny Fernandez, and, to a degree, Glen Murray). So, by all accounts, this is a YOUNG team, but one with experience. The average age of my projected top 6 forwards (Patrice Bergeron, Marc Savard, Phil Kessel, Chucky Kobasew, Milan Lucic, and Marco Sturm) is 24.3 years old. That's pretty amazing considering that only one member of the theoretical top line of Patrice Bergeron (22), Phil Kessel (20), and Milan Lucic (19) is barely able to drink legally.
19 out of 26 players on the 2007-2008 Bruins are under the age of 31, which includes arguably every impact player. Only P.J. Axelsson, Glen Metropolit, Glen Murray, Shane Hnidy, Aaron Ward and Manny Fernandez are older. Well, so is Timmy, but he doesn't count in that group because he can do what he wants. In this discussion, I've yet to include the players who are close to making the leap to the NHL such as Matt Lashoff, Zach Hamill, Tuukka Rask, Pascal Pelletier, Carl Soderberg, etc., etc... In summation, the P Bruins are stacked, I'll leave it at that.
So even though we have to say goodbye to the 2007-2008 Boston Bruins, I cannot wait to say hello to the 2008-2009 Bruins.
