Hitting the Links - Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins

Red Sox
  • Both Sean Casey and Alex Cora are wrapping up their rehab assignments and should be back soon. Casey is expected to be activated on Sunday with Cora following a day or two later.
  • Bartolo Colon is back in action. After tossing two scoreless innings in an extend spring training game, the big guy has been cleared to rejoin the PawSox rotation and is scheduled to start tomorrow.
  • In other starter news, Curt Schilling began a throwing program this week. In a 6 minute session on Tuesday, Schill made 25 throws from 60 feet.
  • Of all the players on the Red Sox roster, Julian Tavarez is the subject of trade discussions. The Colorado Rockies, whose starting pitching is struggling mightily right now, would like to add the versatile veteran workhorse to their rotation.
Patriots
  • The so-called "Spygate" scandal is apparently drawing to a sad and ugly close. Since the inception of this story, we've learned that Matt Walsh has no Super Bowl walk-through (contrary to a published report citing an unnamed source in The Boston Herald) and more importantly, he has no tapes that contain anything commissioner Roger Goodell didn't already know about. What the tapes allegedly display is what Belichick has already admitted to and been punished for. What a mess this has become. One man's desire to thrust himself into the spotlight is finally being exposed as a farce and the New England Patriots organization and their fans can hopefully move on soon.
  • Several more signings to inform you of: TE Tyson DeVree, P Mike Dragosavich, DT Steve Fifita
Bruins
  • Bruins captain Zdeno Chara underwent successful shoulder surgery last week. He's known for being a workout maniac in the offseason, so he'll have to take a little time off before hitting the weights.
  • The Bruins have offered contracts to unrestricted free agents Glen Metropolit and Aaron Ward. Both are set to become free agents on July 1st.
  • Dennis Wideman played with a hernia for approximately 3/4 of the season and will have surgery to correct the problem soon. In related news, hockey players are pretty tough.
  • The Boston Herald speculates that Tuukka Rask could remain at the AHL level next year. He's having an inconsistent postseason and the current goaltending situation in Boston is muddled with Tim Thomas and Manny Fernandez both likely expecting the starting spot, so another year in the minors might be the best option for Rask's long-term development.
