Chuck Kobasew Re-signs with the Bruins

Chuck Kobasew, acquired along with Andrew Ference for Brad Stuart and Wayne Primeau at the 2007 trade deadline, has resigned with the Boston Bruins. A restricted free agent, Kobasew signed a three year deal worth a total of $7 million, which is a good deal for the Bruins. Being a restricted free agent, Kobasew did not have all that much leverage, but still garnered a decent raise. he will be paid $2 million next season and $2.5 million in the last two years of his deal. The 26 year old played in 73 games last year, scoring 22 goals and assisting on 17 others, both career highs. His season was cut short this year by a Zdeno Chara slap shot that broke his tibia. The injury is supposed to heal and Kobasew should be ready by training camp. With Kobasew and Phil Kessel, the Bruins have two young right wings who can both play on the second or third lines; however, one or both will really need to step up if we do not sign a top line right wing for next season.
