Red Sox Weekly Recap 6/8 - 6/14

6/8 vs. Seattle Mariners (2-1 W)
Justin Masterson (6 IP, 1 ER, 4 K) just continues to impress at the Major League level, this time outdueling Seattle ace Erik Bedard to pick up his third win of the season. The Sox could only string together 5 hits all game, but one of them happened to be J.D. Drew's eighth homer of the year. Papelbon picked up his 18th save of the season as the Sox took 2 of 3 from Seattle.

6/10 vs. Baltimore Orioles (10-6 L)
Aubrey Huff's 4-hit performance was too much to overcome as Beckett (6 IP, 4 ER, 3 K) looked very mediocre. Drew and Manny launched their ninth and fifteenth home runs respectively, but the big story here was the implosion of Hideki Okajima. Okie gave up 2 hits and issued another 2 free passes en route to giving up 3 earned runs and took the loss after a very poor showing.

6/11 vs. Baltimore Orioles (6-3 W)
The Sox return to their winning ways as Bartolo Colon picks up his 150th career win. Apparently Tek came into the game feeling sick but it wasn't evident when he smashed a 3-run home run in the first. A solo shot from Mike Lowell (who after the game said he hopes the captain feels like crap every game if it results in him hitting homers) capped the scoring. The aforementioned Colon looked fantastic once again, giving up just 1 earned run and fanning 7 over 6 innings.

6/12 vs. Baltimore Orioles (9-2 W)
The Sox have been getting a good deal of quality starts from the guys in the rotation lately and tonight was no different as Jon Lester (7 IP, 2 ER, 3 K) moved to 5-3 on the year. Tonight's game was a long-fly-fest as Drew, Lowell and Kevin Youkilis all went yard. Who said we'd have trouble scoring runs with David Ortiz out of the lineup?

6/13 at Cincinnati Reds (3-1 L)
In the first Sox-Reds series in over 30 years, the Sox couldn't get the offense going in spite of another solid Masterson (6.2 IP, 3 ER, 9 K) start. Masterson's counterpart, Aaron Harang, was near unhittable as he scattered just 4 hits and recorded 7 Ks over 7 innings. Adam Dunn and rookie phenom Jay Bruce both had solo homers for the home team.

6/14 at Cincinnati Reds (6-4 W 10th)
In spite of going up against breakout player of the year candidate Edinson Volquez (7 IP, 2 ER, 9 K), Tim Wakefield put together another very solid outing (7 IP, 2 ER, 6 K) to keep the Sox in this one long enough to come away with the win. Youk made the most of his return to his hometown with 3 hits including a solo home run in the 10th to give the Sox the lead. Edwin Encarnacion hit a homer off Pap with 2 outs in the ninth to keep the Reds alive and force it into extras, but solo shots from Youk and Coco Crisp sealed the victory for the good guys. Craig Hansen picked up his first save of the year.
