TOP OF THE WORLD! TOP OF THE WORLD!
Banner 17 will be hanging in the Garden rafters after the Celts cruised to a 131-92 victory in Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals tonight. It's the largest scoring differential in a deciding game in Finals history.
Paul Pierce can finally step out of the shadow of the Celtics legends that preceded him...
Kevin Garnett captured that highly coveted, elusive first championship trophy...
Ray Allen rediscovered that sweet three-point shot again... and again... and again...
Pierce (17 points, 10 rebounds) received Finals MVP honors thanks to his stellar series-long effort, Garnett (26 points, 14 rebounds) rebounded with yet another double double after a sub-par Game 5, Allen scored 21 of his 26 points from beyond the three point line (oh, and he set the record for most three-pointers in a Finals series AS WELL AS most threes in a single Finals game, no big deal), and Rajon Rondo had the best game of his young professional career with 21 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Kendrick Perkins played just 13 minutes but his defensive presence in the post was significant in the first half. Everyone got some scratch in this game (except Sam Cassell) as P.J. Brown (who also grabbed his first ever championship after logging 15 years in the NBA), James Posey, Leon Powe, Eddie House, Glen Davis and Tony Allen all logged valuable minutes. It was quite a night and the best way we can close this out is with some photos of the celebration.

Congratulations to the Celtics organization and to all the fans who fell under the spell of Celtics basketball during the 2007-08 season. See you at Thursday's parade (or as Mayor Tom Menino likes to say, the ROLLING RALLY)!
