Red Sox Weekly Recap 6/15 - 6/21

6/15 at Cincinnati Reds (9-0 W)
Four homers from Coco, Ellsbury, Drew and Pedroia provided all the offense the Sox would need as they cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Reds. Beckett was lights out as he went 7 full and struck out 6. It helps that Homer Bailey (2.1 innings, 5 earned runs) pitched like crap and that Jay Bruce, Ken Griffey Jr., Brandon Phillips and Adam Dunn were a combined 0-for-14.

6/16 at Philadelphia Phillies (8-2 L)
Ryan Howard stole the show as he homered twice and recorded a triple en route to a 4 RBI night. Bartolo Colon and Mike Timlin gave up 4 earned runs apiece with the former lasting just 4 innings in the start. Colon left the game due to back pain after taking several ridiculously hard hacks at the dish. Making the loss even more disappointing is the fact that the Sox stranded 10 runners.

6/17 at Philadelphia Phillies (3-0 W)
Soft throwing Jaime Moyer served up a two-run home run to Coco in the 2nd and that proved to be all the offense the Sox would need to come away with the win. Lester had yet another solid outing as he recorded 5 strikeouts, let up 5 hits and walked just 1 in 7 innings. The Sox will likely start trying to get him a bit of extra time off to keep him fresh for the stretch run and the postseason, but thus far in the season, Lester's proven to be one of the Sox's most valuable pitchers.

6/18 at Philadelphia Phillies (7-4 W)
Sticking it to the team he originally decided not to sign with upon his initial drafting into the MLB, J.D. Drew continued the offensive assault he's on this season as he went 4-for-5 with a homer and 4 RBI. Masterson (5 innings, 2 ER, 1 K) improved to 4-1 on the season, but Craig Hansen (0 outs recorded, 2 ER) tried his hardest to give up the win. Hansen's looked absolutely dominant at times this season, but control remains a big concern; hopefully he can put it all together as he'd be a huge asset come playoff time.

6/20 vs. St. Louis Cardinals (5-4 L)
In their first meeting since the 2004 World Series, the Red Sox lost to the Cardinals in spite of the fact that Albert Pujols is currently stashed on the DL. Wakefield (7 innings, 3 ER, 4 K), the game's starter, really deserved much more as he tossed a very solid game for the umpteenth time this year. Okajima (1 inning, 3 hits, 1 ER) looked like crap again and Cards starter Kyle Lohse (6 innings, 1 ER, 4 K) continues to defy the odds as he moved to 9-2 on the year.

6/21 vs. St. Louis Cardinals (9-3 L)
In what was easily the worst start of his Boston Red Sox career (let alone his worst start of the season), Daisuke gave up 7 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in just 1 inning of work. Recent call-up Chris Smith (4 innings, 1 ER, 3 K) filled in admirably for the next 4 innings but the hole dug by Dice-K was too deep to climb out of. On the positive side, J.D. belted his 14th home run of the season; unfortunately, it wasn't as impressive or well-timed as Troy Glaus' grand slam.
