Red Sox Weekly Recap 6/22 - 6/28

6/22 vs. St. Louis Cardinals (5-3 W)
We really cannot ask for much more out of Kevin Youkilis than 2 homers in one game, the second being a walk off shot in the 13th inning. Dustin Pedroia had 4 hits, Mike Lowell had 3 and Jon Lester has simply decided that he likes being good. Since the end of April, Lester has really been improving his command and is showing front-of-the-rotation potential.

6/23 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (2-1 L)
Josh Beckett vs. Dan Haren was hyped up and it delivered with Haren going 7 shutout innings and Beckett throwing 8 strong and only giving up 2 runs. Unfortunately, those 2 Beckett gave up ended up being the deciding runs. The only run that the Sox were able to push across ended up being on a sacrifice fly from J.D. Drew in the bottom of the 8th, which brought the Sox to within 1, where they would stay.

6/24 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (5-4 W)
A big comeback on Jerry Remy Day for the Sox gives them the win. On a day when Justin Masterson did not have his best stuff, the Sox stormed back with 4 runs in the 8th. A single by Pedroia, a double by Lowell and a single by Tek and the Sox had taken the lead. Chris Smith picked up his first major league win by working 2 shutout innings of relief.

6/25 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks (5-0 W)
A great pitching performance by Tim Wakefield and a nice offensive showing for Kevin Cash, who hit a big 3-run homer over the Monster, were the highlights in this one. Wake's 7 shutout innings, with 6 strikeouts and only 1 walk, were very impressive. Pedroia has continued his torrid pace with 3 more hits today. Coco Crisp also had 3 hits, all doubles.

6/27 at Houston Astros (6-1 W)
Dice-K's first start back from the DL was bad; this one was much, much better as he went 5 innings and gave up no runs on 2 hits, 3 walks and 4 Ks. A big 3-run home run by J.D. Drew in the 3rd staked the Sox to a lead they would never surrender. That home run looked like J.D. just flicked it, but he absolutely crushed that one. You know you're swinging the bat well when what looks like a flick of the wrists turns out to be a 380+ foot big fly. Pedroia had 3 more hits and Youkilis had the first 4-hit game of his career.

6/28 at Houston Astros (11-10 L)
This game was full of offensive firepower; too bad that the Sox came up a little bit short. Craig Hansen was the only pitcher who did not give up a run. Offensively, Mike Lowell and Dustin Pedroia led the way with 4 hits apiece. Pedrioia's four hits pushed his average up over .300. Manny Delcarmen picked up the loss, giving up 3 runs in 1 inning of work.
