The Disturbing Trend of One-Sport, Two-Team Fans

Just two short days ago, Barstool Sports introduced us to this disturbing photo of a misguided Red Sox... err, Yankees... err, baseball fan. Yeah.

I think the Barstool crew summed this photo up best by simply posing the question "How is this even possible?" In this day and age, with the history between these two teams, how can you POSSIBLY justify rooting for BOTH the Red Sox and the Yankees? I never thought I'd see something like this myself, but just last evening I had the displeasure of viewing a similar baseball hypocrite sporting the paraphernalia of both teams playing in the night's event while watching the Sox game from the right field grandstand. Behold:

Just as I did upon spotting this jabrone from two rows back, I'd assume most of you are having trouble comprehending exactly what it is you're viewing. Well, we seem to have captured, via cellular phone camera, the greatest of sports travesties: the simultaneous sporting of two teams' gear. Now perhaps this dude's a Twins fan living in the city and attending one of our state's fine colleges or universities and he decided to buy a t-shirt from one of Boston's many street venders. Or maybe he's a diehard Sox fan and has ties to the state of Minnesota and displays it by wearing a Twinkies hat. Other possible explanations: he likes to purchase articles of clothing for every team he sees in action, or he's very, very confused. Whatever the reason, this does not sit well with us here at Boston Sports Buzz, or most sports fans, I'd imagine.

After racking my brain for far longer than I'd care to mention, I just can't understand why someone would do this. I used to have stuff from non-New England teams like a Seattle Mariners Ken Griffey Jr. t-shirt and a Shaquille O'Neal Orlando Magic jersey when I was a kid, but that was more because I liked the individual players, not the teams on which they played. In addition, I'd never dream of wearing another team's gear to my team's home field / court / stadium / rink. It's just unthinkable. Teams are so different and have such greatly dissimilar personalities that it is literally impossible to root for multiple teams day-in and day-out, at least in my humble opinion. What is being depicted in these two pictures simply is not true fandom. I really don't know what else to say on the matter. I just hope this doesn't become some sort of sports epidemic.
