Chase Utley Responds to Yankee Stadium Critics...

Josh Hamilton hit 28 home runs in the first round of the 2008 All-Star Game Home Run Derby (besting Bobby Abreu's 2005 first round mark of 24), including a handful that were measured at 500+ feet. Justin Morneau walked away with the Derby hardware thanks to a total of 22 long balls. Chase Utley? Well, he dropped an F-bomb on live television.

I'm a big Chase Utley fan. He's got one of the sweetest swings in the game and he's the type of player you'd want to build your team around. But honestly, what the hell was he thinking? Did he not see that giant ESPN HD camera planted right in front of his grill? EVERYONE knows to clean up the language during the Derby and All-Star Game because there are mics and cameras planted literally every three feet. Compared to some of the youngsters on this year's All-Star Team, Utley is heavily experienced with 2008 being the third consecutive year (and third overall) he's been elected to the team. Although Utley's impromptu gaffe made for a great television-viewing experience, he really should have known better. Personally, I was greatly amused by Utley's display of thin-skin-edness, but I don't envy all the parents who were put in the position of having to explain to their children exactly what the "F word" means.
