In his Major League relief debut, Justin Masterson struck out 3 and held opponents hitless over 2.2 innings. It's doubtful the Sox were expecting this much of him when they decided to convert him from starter to reliever at the beginning of the month, but if he can be half as effective as he was on Wednesday, he'll be just as valuable as any of the trade possibilities - Fuentes, Marte, etc. - out there right now. Look for Masterson to get another shot at trying his hand at this relieving thing in the upcoming series against the Yanks.
