Pats Come to Terms with First Rounder Jerod Mayo

Boston.com is reporting that the Pats have agreed to a deal with their 2008 first round pick (10th overall), Jerod Mayo. The University of Tennessee product, who earlier this month had claimed he wanted to be in camp on time, will be available for the second of two training camp practices today. No word yet on the parameters of the deal, but some believe it to be for the maximum length for early round picks (6 years).

Mayo figures to be a prominent piece of the Pats' plans at inside linebacker this coming season. He is viewed by many as Tedy Bruschi's eventual successor and with only Victor Hobson and that aforementioned Bruschi ahead of him on New England's depth chart at ILB this moment, he'll have an opportunity to contribute in a big way this year. The 6-1, 242 pounder had nice measurables at the combine and finished the 2007 season with 140 tackles (79 of the solo variety), 1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 interception (the first of his college career, which he returned for a TD).

The Pats have now signed all of their 2008 draft picks and can move on to worrying about the playing side of things... oh, and Nick Kaczur's whole drug problem thing, I guess.
