David Ortiz returns to the lineup tonight and just in time. With the Sox and Rays technically tied atop the AL East standings (the Sox have played 2 more games with an extra tally in both the win and loss columns) and the Sox entering into a pivotal 3-game series against the Evil Empire, who are now just 3 games back from first, Papi's pop will be a most welcome addition. In a 5-game rehab stint, Ortiz batted .313 with 3 home runs, 6 RBI, 6 R and 4 BB. It should be noted, however, that he didn't have a single extra base hit in the latter stage of his rehab assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs. He's batting .252 with 13 HR and 43 RBI in 54 games at the Major League level this season.
