Sox Pursuing Rangers' Taylor Teagarden
As first reported by Peter Gammons, the Red Sox are interested in acquiring Texas catcher Taylor Teagarden (he also notes that the Yanks are actively pursuing Gerald Laird).
It's no secret that the Sox would like to find Tek's eventual successor, so perhaps they see Teagarden as just that. In 740 career at bats, Teagarden has amassed a .270 BA, .395 OBP, .514 SLG, 42 HR, 121 RBI and 151 R. In 53 games at Triple A this season, the 24-year old's batting .234 with 6 HR and 15 RBI.
As you know, the Sox and Rangers have history together as they matched up as recently as last year. It's hard to say what the Rangers would be interested in in return for Teagarden; all positions seem basically set for the foreseeable future with Hamilton, Murphy and Bradley in the OF (Bradley also serves as DH somewhat regularly), Blalock at 3B, Young at SS (although he just got shelved with a fractured finger), Kinsler at 2B and Davis, Saltalamacchia and Ramirez splitting duties between 1B, C and DH (Davis is primarily a 1B, Salty's a C/1B hybrid, and Ramirez is primarily a C). The Sox' pitching is always in high demand, so I'd assume guys like Buchholz, Bowden, Masterson, Bard and Hansen are on the Rangers' wish list. I've also seen Moss' name attached to the Rangers recently, so maybe Daniels and Hicks think they can get lucky with another Sox-system outfielder again.
