Ortiz Tweaks Left Wrist Again, Not Expected to be Serious

Specifically, Ortiz claims to have felt "a click" in his surgically repaired left wrist during his final at-bat of the game in the 9th inning. As if the Sox didn't have enough to worry about right now. His status for tonight's game is reportedly up in the air at this point.

When interviewed after last night's game, Papi didn't seem too concerned that this most recent development would have a big impact on the rest of his season. (My last at-bat, it kind of pulled back a little bit. You feel that click and you get a little concerned about it.) According to Tony Massarotti of the Boston Herald, Ortiz had been told to expect some instability after undergoing surgery, so perhaps this is nothing more than that. Discomfort was expected to arise from time to time and he should be able to play through it. Either way, in spite of his recent 1-for-15 slump since the Manny trade, the Sox would be left reeling without David Ortiz in their lineup (remember, the Sox had Manny and J.D., who's cooled off significantly, to pick up Papi's slack).

In other Red Sox injury news, Mike Lowell received his second cortisone shot of the year, this time to alleviate the pain in his right hip flexor. It's unknown if the shot will last him the rest of the season or if he'll have to receive another one at a later date. His status for tonight, like that of Ortiz, is unknown for now.
