One Day After Losing Crawford, Rays' Longoria Lands on DL

Carl Crawford felt a pop in his hand following an at-bat on Saturday and was diagnosed with a "subluxation of his right middle finger tendon." His status for the rest of the season is unknown and now, so is that of his teammate, rookie phenom Evan Longoria, who suffered a broken wrist after being hit by a J.J. Putz pitch last Thursday. For fantasy owners rooting for AL East teams (yours truly included), it's the first sign that Putz is still good for something in spite of his high ERA and crappy saves total.

We'd never wish an injury on anyone, but let's be honest - the Sox are 4.5 out right now. It's unfortunate as Longoria is one of the bright young stars of the league, but I certainly won't lose any sleep over his absence. The reality is that Tampa's loss of both Crawford and Longoria couldn't have happened at a better time for the Sox, who still have to play two more 3-game series against the first place Rays. So if you're reading Evan, we wish you a full recovery, but hopefully at a pace that's substantially less than "speedy."
