Patriots Meet with Former Bronco John Lynch

UPDATE, 8/14, 11:05 PM:
Boston.com reports that Lynch has been signed. He'll make $1.5 million on a one-year deal. Lynch chose the Pats over Eric Mangini and the Jets. Smart man.

UPDATE, 8/14, 11:38 AM:

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Pats have agreed to terms with Lynch. He's expected to assume the backup S/LB role that Tank Williams appeared to be training for. PFT did go on to state that Belichick failed to mention a Lynch signing in his morning press conference, but they still believe their source gave them credible information (but then again, so did John Tomase...). Until we hear it from Mike Reiss or John Clayton, we'll approach this one with a slight degree of skepticism.

ORIGINAL, 8/13, 8:42 PM:
Just several days after losing Tank Williams for the season due to a knee injury, the Patriots hosted veteran safety John Lynch, who was released by the Broncos earlier this month.

It's unknown how seriously Lynch is considering New England as he'd be expected to play a lesser role than he's accustomed to, but from the Pats' perspective, there's really no downside in adding a 16-year vet with nine Pro Bowl appearances to the roster. His veteran leadership (hard to say a team with 3 Super Bowl victories in the past 7 years needs veteran leadership, but keep in mind the Pats are going to be pretty young on D this year...) and hard-nosed style of play alone make him worth a roster spot in my eyes.
