Hitting the Links - Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins
Red Sox
- Sean Casey's "injury" is said to be a stiff neck resulting from laying on it awkwardly. With Beckett's numbness issue also apparently originating from a less-than-ideal sleep position, perhaps the Sox should somehow incorporate sleep posture into their offseason and spring training regimens.
- Speaking of Beckett, his next start has been pushed back yet again.
- J.D. Drew could hit the DL if he's not able to return by early next week.
- Julio Lugo suffered a setback in his rehab from a quadriceps injury. As you might have guessed, Lugo's the only player that doesn't fall under our "We'd never wish an injury on anyone" policy.
- Aardsma is once again on the DL with a strained groin, further depleting an already strapped bullpen.
- Word on the street is that Wake's starting tomorrow.
- The Sox are interested in adding some outfield help and Mark Kotsay could be a possibility. We're not typically ones to toot our own horn, but toot effing toot.
- The Herald's John Tomase takes a look at whether the Sox can knock the Yanks out of playoff contention in their upcoming series.
- The Globe's Nick Cafardo analyzes the effect of all the injuries the Sox have had to deal with lately.
- Although the team was fearing far worse, ESPN's Chris Mortensen says Tom Brady's injury has been diagnosed as a "deep bone bruise." Considering the alternatives (stress fracture or ligament damage), it looks like we dodged a bullet here.
- Wes Welker suffered an undisclosed rib injury during last Friday's exhibition game. In related news, we'd like to issue a formal request to the Patriots to please stop having Welker return punts and/or kicks (at least during the preseason).
- After sitting out the last two preseason games, Lamont Jordan was back at practice yesterday.
- Both Mike Vrabel and Tedy Bruschi will be the defensive players designated to wear helmets with head-set communication systems.
- The Globe's Christopher Gasper was none too pleased with the Pats' performance on Friday.
- The Herald's Karen Guregian was similarly displeased with the first-teamers.
- The Globe's Marc Spears wonders if Darius Miles can be the replacement to James Posey the Celts have been searching for.
- The B's and Claes Elefalk, Carl Soderberg's agent, aren't exactly on the same page in regards to whether or not the club's top Euro prospect will be in camp on September 19th.
