Sox Bullpen Squanders Sweep; At Least A-Rod Still Sucks...

Hideki Okajima gave up a 2-run bomb to the Maverick of Mustaches, the Leader of the Lip-Sweaters, the Foreman of Facial Hair, aka Jason Giambi, in the 7th inning, blowing the 2-0 lead Lester had staked the Sox to. "Giambino" came up again with the game on the line in the 9th and lined a single off Pap, giving Masterson his fourth loss of the season. Although Rivera got the win and the Sox weren't able to make it 3-for-3 against their age-old rivals, it was nice to see A-Rod acting like his usual soft self, i.e. coming up small in clutch situations. "Double Play-Rod" (nickname courtesy of BDD and the New York Daily News) went 0-for-4 tonight with 3 strikeouts and 4 men left on base today. For the series, A-Rod was just 2-for-13, good for a .154 BA. At least we can always count on consistency from Mr. April-through-September.
In other baseball news, Josh Beckett has been pushed back yet again and the MLB plans to begin using instant replay tonight. Beckett's scratch is being called a "precautionary measure," but with this being the third time he's had to miss his scheduled start, it's safe to say there could be a bit more going on here than the Sox are letting on. Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that he's going to be examined by Dr. James Andrews.
