Bruins Sign Veteran Forward Stephane Yelle

According to Boston.com, the Bruins have agreed to a one-year, $750,000 deal with free agent forward Stephane Yelle.

My initial reaction: Why do we need another center, and one that can't score goals anymore at that? At 34-years-old, Yelle isn't nearly the impact player he was in years past (as evidenced by his 3 goals and 9 assists in 74 games last year), but his veteran presence will help fill the void left by the departure of the immortal Glen Murray. On a team as young as the Bruins project to be, the importance of the addition of an experienced guy like this can't be stressed enough. Also upping his value from the Bruins' standpoint is the fact that "Sandbox" is known for his penalty kill prowess and his excellent faceoff ability.

Yelle figures to anchor the fourth line at center, a sentiment echoed by the Globe's Fluto Shinzawa.
