Hitting the Links - Brady & the Pats
Tom Terrific's out for the remainder of the season, Matt Cassel is taking his place (at least initially), and everyone under the cloud-shrouded New England sun has something to say about it. Let's take a look at some of the opinions floating around the blog-o-sphere:
- The Globe's Tony Massarotti (God that sounds weird rolling off the tongue...) wonders if Belichick can win without Brady and believes we'll finally have the answer to the question of whether it's the coach or the quarterback that has a greater impact on the team's ability to succeed.
- The Globe's Christopher L. Gasper recaps the day's events with an emphasis on the fact that the backup quarterback situation, which looked so meaningless in the preseason, will now determine the fate of the 2008 regular season.
- The Herald's Karen Guregian takes a look at the how the Pats will attempt to fill the void resulting from the loss of the 2007 MVP.
- The Herald's John Tomase (I thought The Herald took Tomase off the Pats beat?) examines the effect of Brady's injury on the Pats' Super Bowl chances.
- The Eagle Tribune's Bill Burt thinks that if nothing else, the Pats will still be fun to watch. Well, I'll agree insofar as the fact that it'll certainly be a lot more... uh... interesting.
- WEEI.com's Ron Borges (Are we all now looking the way on that whole plagiarism thing from last year?) explores the similarities between this situation and the one that face the Pats six years ago when Bledsoe went down and Brady stepped into his place.
- While Randy Moss has publicly stated that he believes the hit was dirty, KC safety Bernard Pollard said it wasn't and he's not a dirty player.
- The other teams in the AFC East, most notably the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets benefit tremendously from Brady being off the field.
- Brady himself told NBC Sports' Tom Curran that he still likes the Pats' chances this year. New England fans have known this for years, but the guy's an absolute trooper and class act in every sense of the words.
- In the end, The Globe's Bob Ryan summed it up best: injuries are a part of the game. What sucks about that is the fact that this is the first time in the Tom Brady era that they've actually been a part of our game.
