Kathryn Tappen brutally mispronounced Alan Faneca's last name, only to be outdone about 4 to 5 minutes later by Naoko Funayama, who similarly butchered Claude Julien's moniker. (By the way, could they have gotten a worse replacement for Rob Simpson? This woman can't even hold Simpson's profuse hair gel. Not to mention the fact that "Naoko Funayama" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue like "Rob Simpson" used to, something I'm sure we'll notice numerous times from Jack and Brick throughout the season.) I typically don't tend to nitpick things like this, but these errors are nothing short of egregious.

Faneca is a potential - some would say guaranteed - Hall of Famer and there was even a commercial dedicated to the mispronunciation of his name a couple years ago. Oh yeah, and he was just signed by the Pats' prime competitor in the AFC East. It would truly shock me if Kathryn's never heard anyone else say his name before, but either way, she doesn't get a pass for this one.

Funayama is NESN's brand new Bruins correspondent. Julien is the Bruins' head coach, as well as a somewhat well-known hockey personality in a general sense (you know, if it's your job to know that kind of stuff). You'd figure learning how to pronounce the guy's name would have been tops on the list after getting the gig, but I guess not.
