Okajima to return to Sox in 2009

News out of Fenway today is that it's official that Hideki Okajima's 2009 option has vested. Okie has appeared in 123 games for the Sox between this and last season, so his $1.75 million '09 option automatically kicked in once he reached the designated mark of 115 games. He hasn't been nearly as effective as last year, but with a season line of 2.88 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 20 H, 52 K and 23 BB, he's been one of the better relievers the Sox have had all season. If only he could retire a few more batters with inherited runners on base...
