Theo sticking around for a few more years...
Per Gordon Edes' Curly Haired Boyfriend, Theo Epstein has agreed to a contract that will extend his tenure as Boston Red Sox GM past this year. Terms haven't yet been disclosed and the deal apparently isn't formalized or signed, but John Henry reports that all parties involved are basically agreed on all aspects of the deal.
It's nice to see this deal getting resolved a little more neatly than his last one (remember when he decided to semi-retire for over two months, leaving Hoyer and Cherington to steer the ship in his absence?). He's made some questionable moves in his time with the Sox, most notably at the shortstop position (and who can forget last year's Eric Gagne trade?), but he's made plenty more - acquiring Papi, Schilling, Beckett and Lowell, not to mention the club's superb track record at the draft in the past five years - that make up for the ones that never quite panned out. Say what you will about Theo, but it's more than likely that the Sox wouldn't have won two of the past four World Series without the Boy Genius at the helm.
