Lowell to have hip operation Monday
Mike Lowell, who was removed from the ALDS roster and is sitting out the ALCS due to roster rules regarding the removal of a player from the active playoff roster, is set to undergo surgery on his ailing right hip this coming Monday.
Hitless in eight postseason at-bats, Lowell clearly wasn't operating at close to 100%. Lowell was clinging to the hope that he might be able to return to the roster for a potential World Series push, but it wasn't in the cards as the swelling in his hip didn't subside. Lowell had wanted to play for Team Puerto Rico in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, but likely will be unable to do so now. Rotoworld speculates that he's no lock to be back to full health for the start of spring training.
