"Big Game Garza" pitches Rays to first-ever World Series

Is Chip Caray serious? First he drops the C-word while describing Pedroia again (that'd be 'Caballito,' get your minds out of the gutter...), then he refers to Game 7 winner Matt Garza as "Big Game Garza." This is really getting absurd. You simply cannot toss the phrase "Big Game" onto anyone and everyone's name and have it truly be applicable, not when the man for whom the nickname was originated - James Worthy - is clearly superior to all the athletes the TBS trio was nonchalantly tossing it around for. Now that that's out of the way...

This really was a pretty riveting game. Nine total hits, four runs scored, solid pitching on both sides, a 1-0 Sox lead turns into a 1-1 tie (then a 2-1 deficit, then a 3-1 deficit), several scoring chances that weren't cashed in on... you really couldn't ask for more out of a series-deciding game (except for a win, from the perspective of a Sox fan). When it comes down to it, the Sox' folly all series was their downfall tonight: leaving men on base. It wasn't the fact that they could only muster three hits that did them in, it was the fact that they left 18 men on base (exactly double the number the Rays left on). It's a disappointing way to go out, but you can't say the Rays didn't earn it. I doubt it will be as exciting a World Series, but it will be interesting to see how Tampa Bay makes out in their first World Series appearance.

Thanks for tuning in for our Sox coverage all season - we'll be back soon with random stuff like a season recap, offseason outlook, possible trades and signings, etc. Be good, Sox fans.
