Certainly doesn't hurt to add a guy that should be a virtual lock to hit 30 long balls in each of the next two years. It also helps that Burrell decided to go to an AL team, where he'll be able to split time at DH and the outfield, if the Rays so decide.
With both the Rays and Yanks getting exponentially stronger at their biggest need areas, the Sox would be wise to make some sort of move soon, even if it's just locking up Tek or settling on a fourth outfielder. I'd still love to see Baldelli in a Sox uniform, but after the news that his original disorder may have been misdiagnosed, his price tag may exceed what the Sox are willing to pay. The part that kills me about this signing is that they got him for only $8 million per year! He made just north of $14 last season and while he was pretty well overpaid considering his defensive downside, $8 mil will no doubt end up being a steal if he appears in 130 plus games. You're right, the East is going to be crazy! The Sox' offense is far from inept, but unless guys like Youk and Dusty continue their torrid pace from last season, we're looking at possibly the third best offense in the division. as you mention, that's definitely a scary prospect.

Well, Burrell wasn't nearly as much of a factor with the Rays as he had been the previous year in Philadelphia. 14 HR as opposed to 33 in 2008. Must be all of that sun getting to them down there! ;)
