Apparently our beloved Red Sox think so as Papi's bitching about not having enough power on the squad and J.D.'s back is already bothering him without having yet played a single game.
In case you missed it, David Ortiz is already bemoaning the lack of another power hitter in the lineup (hey Papi, were you not watching when Youk hit those 29 homers and drive in those 115 runs last season?), and J.D. Drew is likely going to be entering the season injured as he's been dealing with offseason back soreness and wrist stiffness.
So much for a quiet, event-less, happy start to spring training. My take on all of this is, first of all, Papi needs to quit his whining and worry about Numero Uno (actually, numero treinta y cuatro). Those 23 bombs and the .264 average from last season are not going to cut it, big guy. And last time I checked, Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay are pretty good lineup protection. You pissed and moaned about not having enough protection last year after Manny got traded, but the numbers actually showed it didn't matter and you did better with Youk batting behind you! Please, for now, until it actually proves to be an issue, just zip it and go out there and try to produce instead of filling your own mind with fairy tales so you can later explain why you may not be doing so hot. That can only lead to bad things.
And as for Drew, I've been against his being here since Day 1, but I could look past the ridiculous price tag if he actually did what he was here to do, i.e. get on base and play right field. But when you can't even bank on this guy for 120 games and he's not successfully rehabbing injuries in the offseason in spite of owning every whacked out piece of medical equipment on the planet (including a hyperbaric chamber... yeah, he seriously owns one of those things), my patience starts to wear a little thin. Call me crazy.
