The award for picture of the year goes to...

In light of the recent Oscar Awards (which I very rarely tend to watch, but I'm told is still a pretty big event in spite of my not watching), I came up with my own "picture of the year" slash "best picture" award, and you can see it's a bit different than those guys' idea.

I came across this on Deadspin yesterday, who posted the image and story via Sports by Brooks, and couldn't resist tossing it up on this site, as well. As if the picture needed any in depth explanation (seems pretty self explanatory to me, with the message reading quite clearly "Fuck Yogi"), you can check out the short CNBC blurb here.

Anyway, long story short, I decided this should win "best picture of the year" because it's clearly more funny than anything else we'll come across in the next 9 months in spite of the fact that it's only February, and it's probably just barely better than anything I could create on Photoshop given the fact that all I really know to do on that shit is use the clone tool and crop people's heads and put them on different bodies. But for the purposes of a third- or fourth-tier sports website, that's good enough, baby!

On a related tangent, I wish we had athletes like Mantle these days. It was just a different, more interesting era in the game back then. When fraternization and womanizing knew no bounds, and athletes could get away with shit without worrying about having their faces on the front page of the gossip rags. Instead we get a bunch of douche bags like Roger Clemens who claim to be the one remaining faithful player in the game only to find out they had somewhat incestuous, likely underage sex with a woman who would later become a C-list country singer and would way later make several half-hearted attempts to end her own life. What happened to the good ol' days of the game, I ask you?
