Looch's latest fight: yay or nay?
I admittedly didn't watch this fight in "real time" (who are you, Jack Bauer?) as I was covering a girls high school basketball game (yes, it was just as riveting as it sounds), but now that I've seen it, I'm kind of glad I didn't catch it last night. And I wouldn't be too disappointed if I still hadn't seen it. I'm as big a fan of Milan Lucic as there is, and any time he's setting up to drop the gloves I get giddy like a 5-year-old gearing up to open presents on Christmas morning, but as Jack and Brick say, there's a code in hockey. Yes you should retaliate if you've been cheap-shotted like Looch was, but wait until you can take the other guy on upright. There's just too much that can go wrong when one dude is sitting on the ground getting haymakers rained on him, especially when you consider the fact that it looks like Lucic was targeting Brown's neck as it was really the only part of his upper body not shielded in some way.
On a somewhat related note, what's the deal with Big Z these days? For one of the biggest dudes to ever play the game, he's kind of turned himself into a giant pussy, all due respect of course. I mean if memory serves, back in his early Ottawa days (and maybe that last year with the Islanders), he would have been all over that shit. These days, he plays peacemaker more often than punch-thrower, and while I don't mind seeing the Bruins' most expensive player protect himself, I wouldn't mind seeing him go toe-to-toe a little more often.
And while we're on this topic, what the hell did Jack mean by "That is a 2x4 getting split by a hammer!"? Obviously, Brown is the 2x4 and Lucic is the hammer in that metaphor, but is commonly accepted that a hammer is used to split a 2x4? I consider myself something of a handy-man (at least I know how to install closet doors and a home water filter...) and I can safely say the last time I needed to cut some wood I used a saw, not a hammer. Just Jack being Jack I guess.
