Bruins acquire Recchi, Montador on deadline day

It's not exactly the Chris Pronger-to-Boston trade many were hoping for, but the Bruins made a couple of nice trades today by acquiring Mark Recchi and Steve Montador in two separate moves. The B's got Recchi and a 2010 second rounder from Tampa Bay for Matt Lashoff and Martins Karsums, and they shipped Petteri Nokelainen to Anaheim in return for Montador.
They certainly aren't the biggest names that were out there, but these should prove to be two valuable additions for the playoff run. The 41-year-old Recchi will undoubtedly have the bigger impact of the two, and in 62 games this season he has amassed 13 goals and 32 assists. As all the injuries this year have shown, a little forward depth is never a bad thing, and they just got a whole lot deeper there with this addition. Monty doesn't have a big name by any stretch of the imagination, but the numbers (4 goals, 16 assists in 65 games) don't really do him justice. He's been in 20 postseason games and has already logged 125 penalty minutes. Plus, he's got chemistry with Kobasew, Ference and Yelle as all four played on the Flames together previously. Not much more to say about these guys except they're welcome additions to the team. A fine job by Peter Chiarelli and his crew.
More important than who they got and gave up, in my opinion, is who they didn't give up. Some of the latest rumors had Kessel, Bergeron, Fernandez and even Krejci being possible trade bait as the B's will have trouble signing the slew of FAs they have coming up at the end of the year. Out of the bunch, I would have been least disappointed to see Manny go, but why mess with a good thing back there when having two solid goaltenders has clearly been getting the job done thus far? I'm as big a fan of Rask as there is out there, but let's not pin our playoff hopes on a 21-year-old with 5 career games at the NHL level just yet.

Couldn't agree more man. Addition without subtraction...
I'm looking foward to the first legit playoff run from the B's in a long time!
