B's complete four-game sweep, send Habs home

So the Bruins completed the sweep of the hated Habs with a 4-1 victory this evening, gaining a bit of retribution as they drop the team that ousted them in seven games in the first round last season. Hard to say you couldn't see this coming with how much momentum the B's had built up through three games, but as the saying goes, you never really know what could happen, especially when you're in the other guy's house. I personally predicted a Game 4 loss for the good guys, so I won't sit here and pretend like I had this thing called, but the Canadiens were clearly overmatched this entire series. With a sizable chunk of their big name guys set to become unrestricted free agents in the offseason, it'll be interesting to see how the Habs retool and attempt to remain competitive.

Few observations from this game, as well as the series as a whole:

Three stars voting should be done by the fans as opposed to how it's now done (i.e. by crusty old sportswriters who are more concerned with getting their gamers or columns done than they are with electing players to accurately represent their impact on the game). It would be tough because you'd probably get a bit of the All-Star Game effect (you know, when it degenerates into a popularity contest as opposed to a reward for the guys that actually performed the best in the first half of the season), but the fact that Tim Thomas was left off the list is absurd. The guy made 15 saves in the first period alone for Christ's sake! Ryder definitely deserves the top honor with his three points (two goals, one assist) in the home of the team that shat all over him by benching him in the playoffs last year, and Krejci's two-point performance (goal, assist) deserves attention as well, but the Tank should definitely be third star before Kessel and his one goal. That may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't really give a shit.

It's pretty fitting that Mike Komisarek's final act as a Canadien may be his getting ejected for a game misconduct after cross-checking Milan Lucic in the face. What a bitch move. I get wanting to go after a guy because your season's about to end, but do it the right way - by squaring up with someone else that wants to fight, dropping the gloves, and going to work. Don't attempt to injure one of the more valuable players on the other team because you know you'll be hitting the links and not the ice the next day. On a related note, great job by the guys on the bench (Savard and Ward chief among them) to keep Lucic from going after Komisarek more than he did. The last thing the B's need is Looch having to serve another one-game suspension in the opener of the semis.

Last but not least, are there any less classy, more clueless fans in the entire NHL than fans of the Montreal Canadiens? These pieces of trash booed not only the American National Anthem (awesome rebuttal with the standing O during Oh Canada, by the way), but they also crushed the spirits of their 21-year-old franchise goalie, Carey Price, by relentlessly jeering him and cheering when he made a routine save on a Bruins clear. If you can't recognize this kid is going to be something special as well as the fact that it was mainly the uneven, outmatched team around him that was the Habs' downfall, you don't deserve to have a winning team to cheer for in the first place.

That's all I got for now. Thanks for indulging my need to rant. Check back later when I come up with something else to bitch about.
