Would you vote for Curt Schilling?
Got any advice, Johnny Mac?An interesting if not unexpected development in the filling of deceased Senator Ted Kennedy's seat: former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling, he of bloody sock, Yankee-hating, and video game geekiness fame, has been contacted about the possibility and reportedly has not ruled it out.
From the mouth of the garrulous (def: Given to excessive and often trivial or rambling talk; tiresomely talkative ... and no, I didn't know that word before typing the phrase "excessively wordy" into Google) gorilla himself:
What an utterly horrifying prospect. All due respect to Schill, whose 2004 postseason heroics deservedly will garner fond memories and heapings of accolades for decades to come, but this would be an absolute shit show. No way around it. Big 38 seems to be reasonably well-versed when it comes to the game of politics, but as Deadspin scribe Nate Landesman so eloquently put it, the big guy's got quite a bit working against him:I do have some interest in the possibility. That being said to get to there, from where I am today, many many things would have to align themselves for that to truly happen. I am not going to comment further on the matter since at this point it would be speculation on top of speculation.
So please, Curt, for the sake of your legacy in these parts and the gravity of the seat you'd be meagerly attempting to fill, stick to programming alternative worlds for pimple-faced teenagers at 38 studios instead of venturing into a totally unfamiliar realm and likely screwing up royally along the way.Sure, Curt Schilling has all the trappings of a politician: he's a smug, self-righteous blowhard with a penchant for fondling other people's wives. But is he shameless or delusional enough to gun for Teddy K's vacant Senate seat? / Maybe so. Schilling announced on his blog earlier today that he does have some "interest in the possibility." / Of course, Curt is a Republican, has no political experience and would be running in a Democratic state in the footsteps of a deceased hero —but hey, I'm not one to second guess Curt Schilling.
