Chiarelli Swindles Florida; Gets Horton for Garbage (Mostly)

The Jesus Christ of the hockey news world, Bob McKenzie, is reporting that the Boston Bruins have traded DENNIS WIDEMAN, the number 15 pick in the 2010 Draft, and a 3rd round pick for Nathan Horton.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...Sorry, I had to get that out.  Not because this is a one-sided deal (because it's not), but because the bane of my existence now resides in Florida.

Don't ask me how Chiarelli convinced Florida GM Dale Tallon to take Wideman, because I don't know.  But I, along with all Bruins fans, am very happy to see him go.

In my many years of Bruins fandom, I've never seen a guy get singled out and booed AT HOME.  But then again, I've never seen a player turn a puck over, bump into a ref trying to get defensive positioning, fall down, and hand a break away goal to an opposing team, so I don't know everything.

In fairness to Wideman, he does have a good shot, and he hasn't been called a puck moving defenseman for nothing.  But, around here, when you think of Dennis Wideman, you think of stuff like this more than him contributing.

Enough about that, though, let's break down the deal:

BOS gets: Nathan Horton
                 Gregory Campbell

FLA gets: Dennis Wideman
                2010 15th overall pick
                2011 3rd round pick

The only thing that sucks in this deal is that the Bruins had to part with the 15th overall pick.  It's too bad, but like they say, you gotta spend money to make money chieftain.

The Bruins get a legitimate scoring threat in Nathan Horton, which they would have killed for last year.  In what was considered a "down year" for Horton, he scored 20 goals and tallied 37 assists, giving him more points than anybody on the Bruins last year.  Also, he has scored 20+ goals each of the last 5 seasons.  I LIKE!!!

Now, just because I'm as gitty as a school girl at the moment, lets take a look at what the B's might look like next year:

Lucic-Savard-Horton
Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder
Recchi-Bergeron-Seguin
Thornton-Sobotka-Paille

Chara-Seidenberg
Stuart-Boychuk
Ference-Hunwick

Tuukka
Timmy - most likely going to be traded

BOOYAH!!!!
