Cliff Lee to Yanks caps crappy two-day run for Boston sports

Executive involved in Cliff Lee talks: The Yankees-Mariners deal "is just about done." - Buster Olney on Twitter
Alright, for real, what have we done to make the baseball and basketball gods so mad at us recently? I know we've enjoyed an unprecedented period of prosperity as Sox fans, and we couldn't have asked for more from the Celts' historic turnaround from the 2006-07 to 2007-08 seasons, but I seriously can't recall a more discouraging two straight days from a Boston sports fan's perspective than the last two we've witnessed.

If you don't yet know what I'm talking about, I'm of course referring to the fact that just several hours after that fraud LeBron James decided to absolutely destroy the competitive balance in the East (and the NBA as a whole) by joining Dwyane "I fuck bitches with my kids in the room" Wade and Chris "I still look like a dinosaur without my 'dreads" Bosh in Miami, it appears that the Yanks are ridiculously close to getting the most sought-after arm available in the MLB in the Mariners' Cliff Lee. Yeah the Yanks' farm system will be obliterated, especially after factoring who they will have traded to get Lee (prized catching prospect Jesus Montero) in addition to who they already gave up this past offseason to acquire Curtis Granderson and Javier Vazquez, but for the time being, who gives a shit about the minors? They were able to hold on to coveted MLB-level youngsters Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain, and this Lee trade easily makes them the prohibitive favorite to with the World Series, if they somehow weren't already. And if they are able to re-sign Lee this offseason - And why wouldn't they be? They have more money than God. - they'll have one of the most well-stocked Major League clubs of the last decade, probably longer.

I'm not saying as a Sox and Celts fan that I've lost all hope; injuries and rough spells happen even to stacked teams in baseball, superstar basketball players all used to being the go-to guy have to seriously adjust their games, and anything can happen in the playoffs in any sport. But these past couple of days really hammer home the point that we've been insanely fortunate the past handful of years in terms of just how consistently great MOST of our teams have been (looking at you, Bruins), and just how quickly such periods of dominance can turn to mediocrity or even worse. Not saying we're doomed, but brace yourselves for some up and down years in all of our four major sports in which winning records and trips to the playoffs could be much more difficult to come by.

Anyways, go Pats and Bruins!
