Red Sox Deadline Day

(Anthony Ranaudo)

HUGE day for the Sox today as the deadline for signing draft picks is tonight at 12 AM.  Theo and company have drafted about a lot of guys that are considered to be "tough signings" because they have a lot of potential, fell in the draft and think they deserve the same money they would have gotten had they fallen.  But John Henry sleeps on hundred-dollar bills so I'm banking on the Sox signing most of them.

Here are the guys that we care about the most:

Anthony Ranaudo, RHP, LSU

Brandon Workman, RHP, Texas

Sean Coyle, SS, Germantown

Garin Cecchini, SS, Barbe

From what I've been hearing, Ranaudo should sign, Workman isn't looking good, Coyle should sign, and Cecchini might have already signed.

But keep it locked because I'm going to be busting my ass to bring you guys updates as fast as possible.

UPDATE:

12:02 AM - It's late as hell, but Peter Abraham is reporting the Sox have signed Anthony Ranaudo (RHP).  Great news.  Ranaudo was easily one of the best arms in the draft and could prove to be the best.  He tore up the Cape Cod League to prove that he is healthy and gave Theo and Co. boners across the board.  There has been a lot of talk about him getting a major league deal, but the is NOT a major league deal.

6:13 PM - Great day so far for the Sox.  No news on Ranaudo yet, but when there is, it will be on here faster than Ben Roethlisberger on unsuspecting college girls.

4:55 PM - Alex Speier is now reporting that the Red Sox have signed 2nd round pick Brandon Workman (RHP) and 3rd round pick Sean Coyle (SS).  Apparently, Workman wanted 1.25 mil and the Sox were going with the league-suggested 634,000.  So the two sides met in the middle at 800,000.  Deal.

Coyle is reportedly getting a signing bonus of 1.3 mil.  The MLB suggested bonus for a 3rd round pick is 300,000.  This leads me to believe he either gave Theo a BJ as they were signing the papers, or talked at length about Pearl Jam.

4:29 PM - Kendall Rogersof Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Sox have come to terms with 8thround pick Mathew Price (RHP).  A lot of people thought Price wasn'tgoing to sign, so out of the unexpected surprise bin, this is goodnews.  Alex Speier has a little info about him here.

2:42 PM - WEEI is reporting that the Sox are close to signing 4th round pick Garin Cecchini (SS/3B).  The dude is fast as hell, amassing  55 steals his junior year.  He also outperformed Bryce Harper's bitch ass at the U-18 tournament last year.  Garin to Bryce: Harper, tell me how my ass tastes.

12:23 PM - There are a few reports out that the Red Sox have signed 11th round pick Lucas LeBlanc (OF).  LeBlanc does everything well according to scouts, which is why the Red Sox reportedly gave him 2nd round bonus money.
