Holy Shit Balls: Maroney Traded to Denver

This shit just happened, like it's not even up on ESPN yet.

It looks like the former Pats offensive coordinator/midget Josh McDaniels has just traded for RB Laurence Maroney, according to ESPN's little guy, Adam Schefter.

The compensation was just reported.  The Pats get a 4th rounder from the Broncos, but are also sending them a 6th rounder.  So the trade looks like this:

Patriots get:
2011 4th round pick

Broncos get:
Laurence Maroney
2011 6th round pick

The way I look at it is that it would take Laurence Maroney to move up two rounds in the draft?  I guess so.  Far be it from me to criticize Bill, but doesn't that seem like a little bit too much to give up?

Anyways, bottom line is I'd take a 4th over a 6th any day and the Broncos will be a pretty bad team this year so this will be a high 4th rounder.

The move makes one thing clear for the Pats; they are done drinking the Kool Aid over Koolaid.  Fred Taylor is now the clear starter on this team, followed by Sammy Morris and BJGE, and Kevin Faulk on 3rd downs.

I think it's fair to say Fred Taylor better keep his ass healthy or the Pats could be in trouble.

From here, I can see the Pats going one of two ways next year.  They could hope to draft Alabama RB and Heisman-winner Mark Ingram with Oakland's 1st round pick or they could wait and sign a free agent running back out of this years' deep deep RB pool.

Here's a list of the 2011 free agent running backs.  A couple interesting names: all of them.  Every player on that list is better than Laurence Maroney.  The name that I want to see in a Pats uniform is Deangelo Williams, but literally any name on that top list would be an upgrade.

Good luck in Denver, Kool Aid.  Why my brother and I bought your jersey I will never know.

You think they'll change his speed in Madden now that he's in thinner air?
