Bruins Rookie Game Recap/Thoughts

(Note: the ad at the beginning takes awhile and the video might crash...Blame NESN, at least I tried)

Bruins - 5  Islanders - 2

If you weren't one of the 11,571 fans at the Garden on Wednesday, or watching on bostonbruins.com, here are a few highlights and thoughts about the Bruins rookie game because that's how we roll at the Buzz.

- Most eyes were on Tyler Seguin obviously and he didn't disappoint.  He centered the first line along with Jamie Arniel and Jared Knight.  Seguin had two assists, controlled the puck well, skated very well and hit a post on three shots.  It should be noted that he wasn't far and away the best player on the ice, but he still did well for his first game in a B's uniform.

- Jordan Caron got a hat trick.  Deal.  I'll take that deal every day.  He tipped one in front on one, and put in a one-timer thanks to a sick pass from Seguin on another.  It was on the power play and Seguin came off the half wall and passed it to Caron at the door step for the stuff in if you were wondering.  The third was an empty-netter, but he still showed why he is polished enough to make the big B's this year.

- The speedy frog Maxime Sauve (it's pronounced SO-VAY by the way) had one goal and almost got another one after beating three defenders with a sick combination of speed and dangling.  For the record, after he scored his goal, Sauve did the Miroslav Satan celebration.  Just awesome.

- For a guy projected to be the next Shawn Thornton, Lane MacDermid looked far from it skill-wise (no offense Shawno, you're wicked skilled).  He skated well, and had a goal where he streaked down the left wing and sniped one glove side.

- You can tell Jared Knight is going to be a solid NHL player one day.  He is fast, strong on the puck, has a great shot, and most importantly, goes to the net like a mofo.  Whenever he was in the offensive zone, he was driving to the net relentlessly.

- Throughout the entire game, there were fights and scraps.  It was great.  I think there were five fights and everyone was getting into it including Joe Colborne and Tyler Seguin on a few plays.

- Joe Pleckaitis, who I've never heard of before tonight, put up 2/3 of the Milan Lucic MVP shift, beasting two guys off of their skates on back-to-back plays.  Some call it egregious, I call it good forechecking.

- The goalie Adam Courchaine was unbelievable.  Maybe it was just because I expected him to be horrendous because it was a rookie game, but he stopped 31 of 33 shots and stood on his head a couple times.

- To my welcomed surprise, Jack Edwards was announcing the goals and penalties as the PA announcer.

- The good news about Joe Colborne is that he had an assist and looked fantastic when controlling the puck.  He's like if Joe Thornton and David Krejci met and fucked, he would be the shit that they birthed.  It's just the product of baby fucking.  The bad news is that he got lit up on a cheap shot elbow by Justin DiBenedetto.  He was very woozy after the hit and was bleeding profusely.   Colborne reportedly broke his nose and had some stitches, but should be okay.  He will most likely not play in tomorrow's rookie game, understandably so.

Overall, I never once thought about the fact that I was watching it on a shitty little 12 inch laptop because it was just a solid game.  Most, if not all of the top prospects showed why they are top prospects.

Clearly it was just a rookie game, but the Bruins prospects are looking great for the first time in a long time.
