Bruins Rookie Game Recap/Thoughts - Part 2

Bruins - 2  Islanders - 1 / OT

The Bruins won an overtime thriller Thursday night, and by overtime thriller, I mean a lot of out-of-place hockey with prospects that still need to learn a lot.  But nevertheless, a win's a win and again, there were a lot of bright spots.

- Ryan Spooner was the big dog tonight as he scored both goals for the B's.  He hit his first one out of the air and went five hole on a break away to end it in OT on the second.

- Jack Edwards manned the PA system once again, and, once again, did a great job.  When Spooner scored, Jack announced him as "Ryan Spooooooooooner" and. when announcing the OT winner, quipped, "Spooooner sticks a fork in it."  Haha.  Touche, Jack.

- Yury (and apparently his first name is spelled Yury) Alexandrov has good enough stick skills to play in the NHL right now.  Playing on a bigger rink in the KHL has definitely helped his poke check and general stick positioning.  He also led the rush a couple times, creating good scoring chances each time.  While he sucked at the Rookie Development Camp, he was solid in both games for the most part.

- While a lot of players were out of position sometimes, Jared Knight was not.  He did not show up on the score sheet, but was almost always where he was supposed to be.

- Maxime Sauve might have been the best all-around player from both teams and both games.  His speed is big time and he made guys look silly again tonight at points.  He ended the night with two assists and definitely has a bright future.

- Jamie Arniel seemed like the weathered vet in the two games.  He played well 5-on-5, on the power play, and on the penalty kill.  Nothing flashy, but definitely productive.

- Lane MacDermid brought his big boy gloves tonight.  Skated well all night and won a great fight.  Actually, when the refs were trying to break it up, MacDermid was still rabbit punching the back of the dude's head.

- Again, a goalie surprised the hell out of me.  Mike Hutchinson stopped 33 of 34 shots and even pulled a couple great saves out of his ass, which reminded me of somebody.

- Yannick Riendeau made his first appearance in a B's uniform.  Nothing special.  He played okay.

The most important part of the game was the number of people there: 14,180!!!  That's absurd.  That makes a two-day total of 25,651 individuals.  25,651 people went to watch a game starring one potential Boston Bruin.  That's just amazing.  The Bruins are back biatch!!!
