Bruins Draft a Cosmonaut in the 2nd Round; Add Some Solid Depth
So I was a little indisposed yesterday which didn't include alcohol for once.
I was at a charity softball game with my buddy, dove for a ball, apparently was too fat to have dove for said ball, and came away from it with a very minor concussion.
That just goes to show you fat people shouldn't be diving into anything except piles of food.
But I'm feeling a lot better today, which is why I'm posting now instead of last night.
So the B's rounded out the Draft yesterday by selecting 5 more dudes; 3 forwards, 1 defenseman, and a goalie.
PC's best pick by far was C/LW Alexander Khokhlachev in the 2nd round.
It took me a solid 2 minutes to figure out how the hell to pronounce his name, but Khokhlachev has a chance to be a legit scorer in the NHL.
He's only 5'10", but he was one of the youngest players in the OHL last year with the Windsor Spitfires and still put up solid numbers.
In 67 games this year, he had 34 goals and 42 assists. In the playoffs, he had 9 goals and 11 assists in 18 games. Pretty sick rookie year.
I know there's a lot of knocks on Russian guys like they don't play defense, they won't take hits to make plays, they're all socialists, etc.
But, apparently, Khokhlachev plays a North American style and is definitely willing to be physical and compete if it gets him the W.
Not only that, but his best attributes are his hustle and work ethic.
So he has a bright future but next year will be huge for him developmentally.
Here's what he had to say about joining the champs.
In the 3rd round, the B's took a fighter, Anthony Camara. He had 8 goals, 9 assists, and 132 penalty minutes this year. 'Nuff said.
The last 3 guys I know nothing about, but here they are:
4th) Brian Ferlin, RW - 6'2" 201 - USHL
5th) Rob O'Gara, D - 6'3" 185 - Milton Academy
6th) Lars Volden, G - 6'3" 198 - SM-Liga Jr.
This site has a pretty good breakdown of the B's draftees.
So all in all, I'm pretty psyched for the first two guys PC drafted.
Dougie Hamilton looks legit and Khokhlachev could have a really bright future.
